MEMBER BETH DOWD PASSES AWAY - Memorial Information

It is with a very heavy heart that our club remembers Beth Dowd of Pinehurst, who passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Beth was an integral Member of Moore County Kennel Club. She served as a Board Member and long-time Treasurer over many years, where her logic and warmth were legendary. She was often the first to welcome a new member. And she was always there to listen or help, whether or not an issue had to do with dogs.

Beth had a bookkeeping and tax company, specializing in elder care. They depended on her as caretaker, friend and family. She had a way with them.

In the dog world she was known as owner of Best In Show dogs that included Stump the Sussex Spaniel, the 2009 Westminster Winner (the oldest winner in Westminster history at 10). Stump was one of more than almost 200 very successful dogs of various breeds that Beth owned.  This included many Best In Show and Best In Specialty Show Pembroke Welsh Corgi's - including "Sammy Sosa."

In the Equestrian World, Beth was a foxhunter with the Moore County Hounds.  She was a founding member of the Weymouth Bassets a private pack of hounds that hunted over the countryside of Moore and Hoke Counties for 20 years.

A natural mentor, she was very active in the US Pony Clubs, earning the title of National Activities Legend from the USPC.

Beth is survived by her daughter (and club member) Carol Dowd Kamalbake and Rahmean Kamalbake

Please feel free to send wishes to Carol and Rahmean - or share memories with the rest of us in the comment section.

  1. She was a valuable member of a private pack of Bassets, the Weymouth Bassets. They hunted rabbits in Moore and Hoek county for over 20 years.
